Le système immunitaire assure la défense de l’organisme face aux agents pathogènes (virus, bactéries, champignons, parasites), mais aussi face aux cellules anormales. Son activité peut être altérée par de nombreux facteurs, et conduire notamment au développement d’une infection ou d’infections récurrentes. La saison hivernale avec son cortège de maux le démontre bien. Avec l’arrivée du froid nous avons tendance à être plus sédentaire, la synthèse de vitamine D et le moral déclinent, et les repas se font souvent plus riches (mais pas en micronutriments !). Ces changements perturbent le métabolisme et le fonctionnement du système immunitaire.
Face à des défenses immunitaires moins performantes, la naturopathie intervient de manière globale en permettant d’adopter une meilleure hygiène de vie au quotidien. L’approche repose, entre autres, sur ses trois techniques phares : une alimentation saine et diversifiée, un exercice physique adapté et régulier, et une bonne hygiène neuropsychique (gestion du stress, relaxation, etc).
L’alimentation variée …
Le système immunitaire se trouve à 70% dans l’intestin, principale interface avec le monde extérieur. A ce niveau, les cellules immunitaires contrôlent les différentes populations de micro-organismes, formant le microbiote, mais aussi le développement de potentiels organismes pathogènes.
Les interactions entre le microbiote et le système immunitaire se dévoilent toujours plus chaque année, et l’on considère, désormais, la flore intestinale comme le régulateur fondamental de toutes les réponses immunitaires. Il est donc primordial de chouchouter son intestin et ses occupants, en adoptant une alimentation saine, équilibrée et biologique. En parallèle, les éléments favorisant un déséquilibre de la flore (dysbiose) et une perte d’intégrité de la muqueuse intestinale sont à limiter.
Une consommation variée et quotidienne d’aliments riches en phytonutriments (généralement antioxydants, et responsables des couleurs vives des aliments d’origine végétale : caroténoïdes, flavonoïdes, etc…), comme les fruits et légumes, les oléagineux et graines mais aussi les légumineuses, est recommandée pour des effets bénéfiques sur le système immunitaire. Au-delà des phytonutriments, ces aliments jouent le rôle de prébiotiques, en nourrissant les bonnes bactéries du microbiote, et apportent des vitamines et des minéraux indispensables au bon fonctionnement du système immunitaire.
… et équilibrée
Par ailleurs, il est intéressant d’inviter des aliments probiotiques dans l’assiette (légumes lactofermentés, yaourts K-Philus, miso, kéfir, kombucha, etc), d’ajouter fréquemment des épices et condiments dans les plats (curcuma, gingembre, ail, etc), et de consommer des aliments riches en zinc et magnésium. Le magnésium est nécessaire à la synthèse des anticorps, module la libération de certaines cytokines (messagers entre les cellules immunitaires), et stimule la phagocytose (dégradation) des agents indésirables. Le zinc participe au bon fonctionnement des globules blancs.
Les ennemis de la flore tels que les sucres rapides (pain blanc, confiture, gâteaux, viennoiseries, jus de fruits, etc…), les graisses saturées (viande rouge, fromage) et l’alcool sont quant à eux à limiter. Enfin, un assainissement du système digestif peut être bénéfique et conseillé, afin de soutenir l’immunité avec, par exemple, une cure de jus verts ou de spiruline.
L’activité physique
Plusieurs études montrent que les personnes qui pratiquent une activité physique, régulière et modérée, connaissent moins d’épisodes infectieux par rapport à celles qui ne pratiquent pas d’exercice. Une hormone, la DHEA, est davantage synthétisée avec une activité physique régulière, et module favorablement le système immunitaire. Alors enfilons nos baskets au moins 30 minutes par jour, pour traverser un automne et un hiver plus serein !
Stress et sommeil
Bien que les facteurs de stress aigus puissent temporairement améliorer les fonctions immunitaires, le stress chronique diminue considérablement la réponse immunitaire, en influençant notamment la production d’anticorps. Apprendre à mieux gérer son stress au quotidien apparaît donc essentiel, pour un fonctionnement optimal du système immunitaire. Plusieurs outils ont démontré leurs effets bénéfiques : méditation, relaxation, cohérence cardiaque, sophrologie, yoga, musique et chant, etc…
Le manque de sommeil impacte lui aussi le système immunitaire. Certaines protéines, les cytokines, nécessaires au bon déroulement du processus inflammatoire (en quantité « adéquate ») et à la résolution de l’épisode infectieux, sont davantage produites et libérées durant le sommeil. Adopter un sommeil suffisant, et de qualité, avec des horaires de coucher et de lever réguliers, est primordial pour soutenir l’immunité.
Quelques pistes supplémentaires
D’autres facteurs tels qu’un dysfonctionnement thyroïdien, un surpoids, une carence micronutritionnelle peuvent perturber l’immunité. Leur accompagnement est possible en naturopathie.
Enfin, la modulation de l’hygiène de vie est primordiale pour renforcer ses défenses immunitaires. Il s’agit, avant tout, de reprendre sa santé en main et d’utiliser ensuite, si besoin, des compléments alimentaires et soutiens naturels, comme les produits de la ruche ou l’extrait de pépin de pamplemousse, dont l’action sera d’autant plus efficace.
Certaines plantes (Echinacée, Andrographis, Astragale, etc…) et huiles essentielles (Ravintsara, Eucalyptus radié, etc) sont également intéressantes pour soutenir l’immunité, mais il est indispensable de demander conseil auprès de votre praticien de santé naturopathe, votre médecin ou votre pharmacien, car leur usage n’est pas sans risque, et peut même être délétère (contre-indications vis à vis de certaines pathologies et phase de maladie, interactions médicamenteuses possibles, etc…).
Si vous êtes particulièrement sensible aux infections hivernales, pensez à la prévention grâce à la naturopathie.
